The lip enhancement process

Step 1

Initial consultation

During your consultation with Dr Grewal, you'll discuss your goals and desired outcome. We'll examine your facial proportions and lip anatomy to determine the most flattering enhancement approach for your features.

Understanding your expectations is crucial—whether you're seeking subtle plumping, better definition, or correction of asymmetry, clear communication helps ensure you'll be delighted with your results.

Step 2

Treatment day

The procedure typically takes about 30-45 minutes. After cleansing the area, a topical anaesthetic may be applied for additional comfort, though our Fillmed products already contain local anaesthetic.

Using fine needles or cannulas, Dr Grewal will precisely inject the filler to achieve the desired shape, volume, and definition. The process is methodical and artistic, with frequent checks to ensure symmetry and natural proportions.

Step 3

Immediate aftercare

Following treatment, you might experience some swelling, tenderness, or bruising—all normal and temporary effects. Cold compresses can help reduce swelling, and we'll provide detailed aftercare instructions to ensure optimal healing and results.

You'll see immediate volume, though the final result becomes apparent after any swelling subsides, typically within a few days.

Step 4

Follow-up appointment

We recommend a follow-up appointment 2-3 weeks after treatment to assess your results. If needed, a small amount of additional filler can be added to perfect your look. This gradual approach helps ensure natural-looking results that enhance rather than overpower your features.

Natural-looking

enhancement

Our philosophy emphasises enhancement that complements your natural features rather than creating an artificial look. We consider:

  • Your natural lip shape and facial proportions

  • Age-appropriate fullness that balances with your other features

  • The relationship between your upper and lower lips

  • Definition of the lip border and Cupid's bow

  • Maintenance of natural movement and expression

This thoughtful approach results in lips that look naturally fuller and more defined—enhancing your appearance without calling attention to the treatment itself.

FAQs about

Lip enhancement

How long do lip fillers last?

Results typically last 3-6 months before the hyaluronic acid is naturally absorbed by your body. Regular maintenance treatments can help sustain your enhanced lip appearance.

Is lip enhancement painful?

Most patients report only mild discomfort during treatment. Our Fillmed products contain local anaesthetic to minimise sensation, and we can apply additional topical numbing cream if needed.

What if I don't like the results?

One advantage of hyaluronic acid fillers is that they can be dissolved if necessary. Though rarely needed, a special enzyme can be injected to break down the filler and reverse the effects.

How do I prepare for lip enhancement?

For at least a week before treatment, avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements like aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil (with your doctor's approval). Avoiding alcohol for 24 hours before treatment can also help minimise bruising.

Can anyone have lip fillers?

Most healthy adults are candidates for lip enhancement, but certain conditions like active cold sores, certain autoimmune disorders, or pregnancy may mean treatment should be postponed. During your consultation, we'll review your medical history to ensure lip fillers are appropriate for you.

Will my lips look natural?

Yes, when performed with skill and an artistic eye. Dr Grewal takes a conservative approach, focusing on enhancing your natural lip shape rather than creating an obviously augmented appearance. Many patients visiting us from Leamington Spa, Warwick, Kenilworth, Coventry and beyond, report that friends notice they look better but can't pinpoint exactly what has changed.

Is there downtime after lip enhancement?

Swelling is common for 24-48 hours after treatment, with some patients experiencing minor bruising that can be covered with makeup. Most social and professional activities can be resumed immediately, though you might want to schedule treatment several days before any major events.
